The Sunday Currently, Volume Thirty Eight

My last Sunday update was in Jan of this year, wow. Between January to August of this year, I have traveled to two different countries (Japan & South Africa), sung in our annual concert and worked very hard. This half of the year was particularly trying at work, but I feel a sense of renewed motivation and discipline to improve myself in terms of knowledge and social skills at the workplace.

For my hobbies, other than singing, I am trying out bullet journaling! I used to own daily journals / planners, but my current lifestyle does not fully utilize a daily spread, so I have decided to use generic notebooks and draw out my own bullet journal. Creating photo layouts are really therapeutic and provide opportunities for reflection and appreciation. ɾ⚈▿⚈ɹ

PLANNING... the remaining time I have left for this year. I did not manage to complete all I set out for in the first half, but I did complete some goals such as getting a new wardrobe and study table.

WATCHING... Hataraku Saibou [Cells at Work] - it is educational and entertaining to watch at the same time!

CELEBRATING... the new Try Guys channel! They are the most entertaining channel I follow from the Buzzfeed team, and it is great that they have started on their own business while keeping their familiar branding.

DECIDING... to catalog the various washi tapes that I have accumulated over time, inspired by the planner video that Kaila [Rainbowholic] uploaded recently.

LOOKING... forward to taking photos of my Japan stationery haul back in April (yes, one of the uncompleted goals from the first half of the year).

TAKING... a break from piano lessons because they are getting expensive at higher grades. Also, I do not have much time to practise every week, so I am considering a private teacher who can teach me bi-weekly instead.

HOPING... to find another hairdresser I can trust! Somehow my go-to stylist made a sudden departure from the salon I frequented, so I am taking this chance to try out other salons that J-Passport support (discounts and promotions are often available!).

PLAYING... Maplestory M, the mobile version! Originally, I did not want to start playing it because of the time it would consume, but several of my friends were playing and needed numbers for the guild, so I started to play!

Skincare update! [July 18]

Half of 2018 is over! It's been a very busy month with travelling to South Africa for a choir competition. Super grateful for the outpouring of support for my singing hobby (check out Mothership's coverage of us!)

From top to right, clockwise:

♡   TT Hydra-Intense Black Charcoal Mask ♡

What it is: A black charcoal sheet mask containing moisturizing ingredients (Hyaluronic acid, patch water(??), hydrolyzed adansonia digitata extract) to hydrate skin

Price: Get 5 masks for S$8.90 over at Qoo10! That makes each mask less than $2, which is pretty good for single masks.

Key ingredients: There is no ingredients list in English ):

My thoughts: This mask was hydrating indeed, but not any better than my favourite Innisfree masks. Again, the fit was less than ideal.

♡  TT Delicate Hydrating Squalene Bemliese Mask ♡

What it is: Comes in a black sheet mask with botanically derived and skin-friendly squalene that helps replenish dry skin. Together with the HEDI Shea Butter, the mask boosts cell regeneration, revitalizes mature skin and delivers nutrition deep into the dermis, leaving the skin radiant and glowing.

Price: Get 5 masks for S$8.90 over at Qoo10! That makes each mask less than $2, which is pretty good for single masks.

Key ingredients: There is no ingredients list in English ):

My thoughts: My first mask after returning from dry and cold South Africa! My skin felt really smooth after using this mask. The fit of this mask was not very good though - it did not cover parts of my nose and forehead.

♡  Leaders Insolution Derma Soul Bright Mask ♡

What it is: A sheet mask that is rich in antioxidants from the various berry extracts, the fast-acting mask makes skin brighter, clearer, and naturally radiant.

Price: $2.90 at a clearance rack in Watsons

Key ingredients: Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Alcohol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract (2500ppm), Arginine

My thoughts: The sheet mask had an interesting coil design on it, but I am not sure how it would help with effectiveness? The mask feels cooling, and leaves behind a slightly sticky feeling, but I am not bothered by it. It definitely helped to moisturize and freshen up the skin!

[Amaya Travels] Tokyo, Japan Part 2!

I am back from South Africa doing a whole week of singing and dancing! I decided not to bring my camera along as the group mostly stayed indoors. Basically all my photos that I took are already up on Instagram x) I update more often there, so follow me over at Instagram or my FB page if you want more updates!

This post will be mostly about food I ate in Japan!

Mum wanted to eat okonomiyaki!

We didn't have to cook it ourselves; the waiter would come over to cook it for you!

Finally got to try out Hanamaru Udon!
Takoyaki from the Takoyaki museum in Odaiba!
The fruit in season was cherry tomatoes - look at those colours!

♡  Sekaido ♡

The must-go store for all stationery lovers! This time round, I got washi tapes and colour palettes for my stamp collection. Will be putting them up in a later post!

 ♡  Nezu ♡

Hantei (Nezu) is a really popular restaurant that serves kushiage, deep-fried skewers of meat and vegetables, in a unique three-storey wooden building. The building itself has been designated as an important cultural property. We were recommended this place by a family friend, who made the reservation for us!

We were also in time for the Azalea flower festival!

Signing off with a picture of pretty tulips from Odaiba~ The weather that day was excellent for photos!

[Amaya Travels] Tokyo, Japan

♡  Tokyo ♡

Since this was a family trip and I had to take care of my family members, there was less photo-taking time and more family bonding time! So these posts are going to feature little snippets of where we went (and ate haha).

♡  Animate ♡

Animate stores are a must-go! Levels of anime merchandise and rows of gacha machines to choose from~

Touken Ranbu has eyeshadows now!

With the Cardcaptor Sakura anime concluding recently, more merchandise has popped up for them!

Butler stickers, anyone?

♡  Pokemon Centre ♡

Pokemon Go is still popular in Singapore two years after its launch. I have stopped playing for other games though :P This store was the one in Odaiba!

Jumbo Kero-chan at Village Vanguard!
Sanrio mascots in Odaiba~

Skincare update! [June 2018]

Half of 2018 is over!

From top to bottom, left to right:

♡  Cre8skin It's Real Color Hydro-Gel Mask-Cucumber ♡

What it is: A gel-type mask that comes in two parts, which contains fine holes that hold sufficient ingredients and water. Contains mainly cucumber and a patented extracts combination from 7 natural plants (green tea, centella, chamomile, gold, asiatic knotweed, licorice and rosemary).

Price: Redeem your free sample over at The Sample Store!

Key ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Chondrus Crispus(Carrageenan), Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Agar, Potassium Chloride, Glucose, Morus Alba Bark Extract

My thoughts: This was rather interesting to use. It comes in two parts, with a film over each side. It was quite difficult to get it to stay on my face while I was working on my computer. Skin feels moisturized though!

♡  Etude House Pomegranate ♡

What it is: A 0.2mm sheet mask containing pomegranate extract for skin firming effects

Price: S$1.90 per sheet at the Etude House physical stores.

Key ingredients: Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Alcohol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract (2500ppm), Arginine

My thoughts: Easy to use, and very hydrating! There are a lot of alcohols in the ingredients listing, but I did not feel my skin drying out, which is a good thing.

♡  PIME Remade Mask ♡

What it is: A sheet mask made from cellulose powder (that supposedly holds ingredients better) and contains bee venom & collagen to whiten and care for wrinkles.

Price: Redeem your free sample over at The Sample Store!

Key ingredients: Hydroyzed collagen, Glycerin, Water,Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Dipropylene Glycol,Betaine, Hydroxyacetophenone, Panthenol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Dimethicone

My thoughts: The mask felt comfortable on the face! Hydrating and brightening effects were quite obvious, but not so sure on the firming effect. The promotional material suggests using it with the ampoules, which would amplify the firming effects I think?

♡  Hiddencos Americano Mask ♡

What it is: A sheet mask containing a patented Phyto Oligo ingredient that fills the skin with moisture to protect and maintain smooth and perfect skin.

Price: Redeem your free sample over at The Sample Store!

Key ingredients: Purified water, dipropylene glycol, glycerin, butylene glycol, betaine, fructan, 1,2-hexanediol, green tea extract, Sodium hyaluronate, glyceryl acrylate/acrylic acid co-polymer

My thoughts: I was hesitant to try on this mask because of the latte one, but since I already bought it, I shall not waste money! It has the same chocolate-y smell, but was lighter on the skin that the latte one! Overall a better experience. It could be much better without the smell!

[Amaya Travels] Tokyo, Japan (Disneyland)

♡  Tokyo Disneyland ♡

Second day in Japan was spent at Disneyland! We happened to be there on the last weekend before Disneyland changed their fireworks program, so the park closed early at 5pm that weekend. That didn't stop us from covering a lot of ground though!

Really reminds me of USS back home?

Similar to Disneysea, there is also a ticketed show that you can only get tickets via the lottery on the day itself. We didn't succeed in this one, so we queued for the free seating. FYI, the first show of the day has no ticketed seats.

The disney theme in the food was a really great touch! Worth every penny :D

A thematic experience walking through the halls of the castle!

Random flowers!
Of course, you must also visit the various souvenir shops in Disneyland (and hope that you do not spend all your money here XD) A lot of people bought the character hats and wore them around the park, but I didn't get any because I couldn't find a use for them outside of the park...

Keychains of shoes from the villians!

Cookies for the 35th anniversary

Frozen is easily one of the popular motifs in the park.
Since the park closed early, we decided to spend some time at Ikspiari, the shopping mall right at Maihara Station for dinner! Spring meant lots of flowers in bloom. It just rained before we came to the mall, so all the seats inside the cage-like structures were wet.
